6. kerroksen sisäilma / The indoor airquality of 6th floor

Terkuin,

Last week’s campus property meeting revealed the concerns of the library staff about indoor air in the 6th floor. According to our knowledge, students have also systematically reported about bad quality indoor air in both the 6th floor and the 3rd floor for a long time.

According to Jukka Jonninen, the Occupational Safety and Health Inspector at the Sofianlehdonkatu campus, Sweco’s measurements show that on the 6th floor there are locally significant microbial lesions: bacteria and mold above the limit values. In addition, unfavorable pressure conditions were reported on the 6th floor. The Metropolia Occupational Health and the Occupational Safety Officer instructed in the property meeting that no one should spend long periods in those premises due to their current state. The figure below is an estimate by the Occupational Safety and Health Authority on the results of the indoor air measurement in the 6th floor.

At the Real Estate Meeting it was agreed that during this week there will be made some air adjustments in the 6th floor, which should make things slightly better. In addition, the meeting proposed to purchase air purifiers in to the campus library. However, Nimo and Kaarina, the heads of advocacy for our students, pointed out that on the same floor there’s Megora and two computer classes and it would be particularly important to get air cleaners in them as well as soon as possible.

Until then, we hope that students will only stay temporarily in the 6th floor – not for too long periods of time. We have also been negotiating a new indoor air info session during the spring, the time will be soon be informed. The school has agreed to inform you in good time of the time of the next indoor air info session. At the meeting, it was also decided that future info will be made student-friendly, for example, student health care will be present at the info.

Best wishes,

Nimo and Kaarina
